Thursday, November 10, 2022 –President Cyril Ramaphosa, on Wednesday, disclosed his discussions with Kenyan counterpart, President William Ruto.
The South African head of State who was addressing in the Kenya-South African High-Level Summit held at the KICC, confessed how Ruto had demonstrated marketing and sales skills since taking office.
The KICC meeting saw the SA president serve delegates with some light moments on how Ruto handled him over trade matters between their two nations.
“President Ruto is an excellent salesman, all morning, he has been trying to sell me Kenyan tea, coffee, and avocado. As you see me, I’m full of Kenyan tea,” Ramaphosa stated as the audience broke into laughter.
He also lauded Ruto for his extra-ordinary confidence that saw the two nations seal the 90-day visa free visit to South Africa.
The SA president added that, with the new president in office, Kenya will be witnessing a huge economic turn around.
“President Ruto is action-oriented and we have ministers on both sides who are determined to improve the relationship between South Africa and Kenya.
“When we talk about trade, it is not just one way, it’s not only for South Africa to sell. I want to see Kenyan tea and coffee in South Africa as well,” he noted.
Ramaphosa and Ruto agreed to work together going forward so that to address the ecurrent trade imbalances.
