EMBATTLED MIKE MBUVI SONKO has succeeded to temporarily halt Nairobi by-elections slated February.
Through his High Court petition he filed recently, Sonko who is serving his ouster managed to grab orders that will now see plans to hold elections stopped until determination is done.
This is happening despite the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission BBI having set the election date to February 18 this year.
“It will only be fair and just if they are restrained from taking any further action that is prejudicial to my rights,” Sonko said in a 50-page petition at the High Court.
The high voltage petition accuses the State of having politicized his removal from the position of Nairobi Governor against Article 1(1) of the Kenya’s Constitution.
“He will suffer irreparable damage not compensable in monetary terms because he stands to lose his position as the second governor of Nairobi City County without the due process of the law, the rule of law and constitutionalism,” it further read in part.
He now wants his impeachment nullified by the courts so that he can resume duty at City Hall.
