Sunday, January 29, 2023 –Azimio allied politician has claimed that police started arresting Azimio la Umoja supporters.
Member of County Assembly MCA Robert Alai noted that police who had been deployed along the city roads heading to the venue, started harassing and arresting some of their supporters in a scheme to reduce crowd at the rally.
“Police officers arresting supporters of Azimio at Lady Northey,” he updated.
And according to the report by the Star, dozens of police officers and anti-protest unit had been mobilized to enforce security.
Speaking over the matter, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said his team had met with organizers of the event and agreed on various modalities. This will ensure it starts and ends well.
“No one wants chaos. We are here for all,” Bungei said.
Furthermore, he revealed that some of the officers had been deployed to ensure the Sunday Mashemeji derby (Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards) goes on well.
