Saturday, November 5, 2022 –Kenya Meat Commission KMC is back to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Mithika Linturi, made the announcement on Friday November 4 saying his boss President Ruto had issued the express directive to revert the military takeover.
“The President has ordered that KMC be returned to the Ministry of Agriculture. The military is part of the government, and we must respect the good work that they have done as their management is good,” CS Linturi revealed.
This directive goes against his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta who had handed the parastatal to the military in his efforts to revive it.
Linturi, nonetheless, clarified that the operations at the meat parastatal will still be undertaken by the military due to their high efficiency.
“They have been doing that for a short time, and we can see it from the supply of meat in the market. It is also very clean. What we want is the delivery of services, not who is doing what, because at the end of the day, citizens have to get better services,” he made the explanations
KMC was handed over to the military after President Uhuru Kenyatta started using the men in uniform to run and turn around collapsing State-owned organizations.
In the same month, Uhuru would go ahead to hand over Nairobi to General Mohamed Badi through Nairobi Metropolitan Services NMS.
