Thursday, December 22, 2022 –President Wiliam Ruto has hired Retired Chief Justice David Maraga to be the new head of the recently constituted task force required to streamline police service.
Ruto appointed the former CJ to manage the task force mandated to review the terms and conditions of police officers in the country.
The President instructed the Maraga-led task force to draw a well-researched report of their findings, come up with implementation matrix before handing it over to him.
“The objectives of the task force are to identify the legal, policy, administrative, institutional and operational constraints on effective service delivery by the National Police Service and the Kenya Prisons Service (KPS).
“Identify and recommend legal, policy, administrative, institutional and operational reforms in the NPS and KPS for effective service delivery,” read the notice in part.
For long, police have been living in poor environment including working environment something that the William Ruto’s new administration wants to correct.
The President wants the task force to investigate and make proper recommendations that will see police working environment improved including salaries and welfare.
