Wednesday, November 16, 2022 –President and his Cabinet have approved deployment of General Service Unit GSU as well as Rapid Deployment Unit RDU officers to help reinforce security around the city.
A Cabinet sitting paper dated Tuesday November 15 and approved by the members indicated that the GSU and the RDU will help strengthen patrols around Nairobi following a spate of crimes.
President William Ruto and his cabinet are taking this direction after there was a laud disquiet in the city following a spate of crimes perpetrated by gangs of criminals who stab, rob and kill at will.
“Cabinet sanctioned swift and decisive action to deal with all those perpetrating crimes with the deployment of additional specialized police units drawn from the GSU and RDU,” the Cabinet dispatch read in part.
The cabinet further agreed to pump up security surveillance not just in Nairobi but also in other parts of the country.
“Cabinet approved the reinstatement of the multi-agency co-ordination between Kenya’s security organs and operators at all points of entry I detect and prevent trafficking in Narcotics and other psychotropic substances,” the statement also read.
As a lasting solution, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, two days ago, announced other changes in Nairobi County Police command where he brought in Adamson Bungei as the new city boss.
