Monday, January 30, 2023 –President William Ruto has sought to know why and how fellow 2022 presidential candidate Raila Odinga ended up hosting Wafula Chebukati and two other electoral body officials in his house.
This is following Raila Odinga’s claims that three top former IEBC commissioners – Wafula Chebukati, Abdi Guliye and Boya Mulu – had visited him for bribes so that to announce him the winner.
“Chebukati stated that some people tried to bribe him..also, Guliye and Molu. Ask them what did they come to ask me when they visited my house. Inform them that I have photos and I can expose them,” Odinga charged as the crowd cheered on recently.
And on Monday January 30 during the ongoing Africa Prosecutors Association conference in Mombasa County, the president wondered why Odinga allowed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC officials in his house.
“If it is true, what were these officials doing at your house in the first place,” Ruto posed the question adding:
“You had an opportunity to bring up this claim of alleged bribery before the seven judges of the Supreme Court and you did not. You chose to announce it at a political rally”.
According to the head of State, Raila and his Azimio lawyers ought to have used such evidence during the presidential election petition at the Supreme Court.
President Ruto was reacting a day after claims by the Azimio leader that three former IEBC commissioners, paid him a visit before the official announcement of the August 9 presidential results.
Present in Mombasa event was Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Shariff.
