Monday, October 10, 2022 –President William Ruto shocked Tanzanians after he stopped a translator who was helping translate his English speech.
Dr. Ruto, who seemed not aware of the plan, asked the State translator who had joined him on the stage to stop.
He added that he will do the translation himself if at all there will be need to do so but wondered who, in this era, still does not understand English.
“I do not know whether it is necessary to translate, is there anyone who is not conversant with the English language?” Just let it be, I will repeat it myself afterward because you will confuse me,” Ruto said.
This was happening after he had earlier, publicly, expressed his difficulty in speaking in Tanzanian Swahili for all the locals to understand.
“I have really struggled with Kiswahili this morning, this is because it has really mixed me up. Allow me to make my address in English, so that I am well understood,” he urged.
Ruto is in Tanzania for a two-day official visit coming just hours after leaving Uganda.
