Friday, March 17, 202 –Ministry of Interior has today denied publishing a Gazette Notice in line with Raila’s Monday March 20 holiday announcement.
On March 17 morning, the government flagged the viral Notice purporting to allow the country to be in holiday mood as Raila and his Azimio supporters hold demonstrations in the city.
In the purported Gazette Notice, there was a signature of Interior Cabinet Secretary CS Kithure Kindiki.
“It is notified for general information that in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 20th March, 2023 a public holiday marking Mass Action Day,” the fake notice read in part.
Government has since cautioned its citizens not to buy such propaganda since no one will be required to join the illegal demonstration.
On Tuesday March 14, Mr. Odinga announced Monday March 20 a public holiday after Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua urged him to make the declaration.
“I hereby now declare today in the name of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Coalition that Monday the 20th of March will be a public holiday,” Raila made the declaration.
This saw the country divided in between on whether his announcement would hold or no.
