Wednesday, October 12, 2022 –Director General of Public Prosecution has withdrawn cases against two key public officer holders.
On Wednesday October 12 morning, DPP wrote to anti-corruption court to withdraw the multi-million fraud charges facing new gender Cabinet Minister, Aisha Jumwa, who had been accused of illegally obtaining a sum of sh 19 million from Malindi Constituency.
The DPP’s office through head of prosecution, Alex Akula, requested presiding Magistrate Martha Mutuku not to go on with the case following an official request in favour of Ms Jumwa who is the first defendant in the matter.
Reacting to the move, Jumwa’s lawyers led by Jared Magolo said they are now waiting for an apology from the government.
In her ruling, she asked that the case goes to the mention stage so that the remaining eight can be re-charged.
These others include Wachu Omar, Kennedy Otieno, Bernard Riba, Sophia Saidi, Margaret Kalume, Robert Katana and Multiserve Contractors.
The economic crime was reported to have taken place between May and October 2018 in Malindi Constituency.
Away from that matter, the DPP also today withdrew graft charges against former Kenya Power Managing Director Ben Chumo.
It was happening just a week after charges facing former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu were also withdrawn from court.
