Sunday, November 20, 2022 –Returned lawyer Miguna Miguna has warned the new government against its plan to start importation of Genetically Modified Organisms GMOs maize and other products.
In his Sunday November 20 morning statement, the vibrant lawyer who is allied to the William Ruto’s government said he will not be supporting this course because it is selfish.
“I say a firm NO to the mad rush to import GMO Maize and other foods to Kenya. I believe that it’s irresponsible and amounts to recklessness on the part of the Kenya Kwanza government. Such national policy shifts should be preceded by wide national consultations and debates!,” he firmly stated.
He went ahead to argue that hard-working Kenyan farmers grow nutritious maize and that they deserve government’s support.
“Craving GMO ugali is both unpatriotic and economic SABOTAGE to our farmers. GMO seeds will kill Kenyan farmers and their livelihoods in 5 years! Liberate your mind!” he reasoned.
Miguna reminded new Trade and Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria that there are millions of tons of non-GMO foods including maize all over the world which could be brought into the country for use.
“If the government publicly sought donations from non-GMO food producing countries, we would have received more than enough donations, leave alone importations by cartels! Let’s love ourselves!” Miguna added.
CS Moses Kuria recently asserted that government will bring in GMOs whether others like the idea or not.
