Friday, May 13, 2022 –Nairobi based singer Kevin Kioko or Bahati will now vie for Mathere Parliamentary seat.
Jubilee Party has today Friday May 13 made an about-turn following persistent protests from Bahati and his supporters.
Making the announcement today, Jubilee Secretary-General, Jeremiah Kioni, said that the singer-turned-politician was now free to run for the seat against ODM candidate, Anthony Oluoch.
Kioni reasoned that the decision to allow the artiste to go ahead with his campaigns was informed by the fact that youth in the country had become so powerful and hard to brush away.
Bahati almost severed ways with his Jubilee Party after he was challenged to drop his bid in favour of the Incumbent, Anthony Oluoch.
“Today I am not crying, so I would like to thank my party leader for giving not only Bahati the opportunity but also the youth of this country an opportunity to lead and give the people a voice. I also want to thank Baba (Raila Odinga) for giving me the consideration despite the tough issues of zoning in the coalition,” Bahati stated.
His certificate had been withdrawn on grounds that ODM had a capable candidate in Mathare and it was going to be hard to field two candidates from Azimio coalition.
In his statement while withdrawing the certificate, Jubilee Party Director of Elections, Kanini Kega, stated that ODM had expressed dissatisfaction by the coming in of Bahati saying it would give their rival UDA an easy win on August 9.
