Wednesday, November 16, 2022 –President William Ruto has reacted to calls by his allies on amending the Constitution to add him more time in office.
Addressing during their Parliamentary Group meeting PG held at Statehouse Kenya today Wednesday November 16, the president noted that the presidential term limit will not be touched even with a comma.
“Do not spend your time pushing for selfish and self-serving legislation, like changing the Constitution to remove term limits, my focus is service to the people,” Ruto told his MPs.
He further argued that, he will fight such a retrogressive agenda the same way he handled the Building Bridges Initiative BBI.
“The same way I opposed BBI, I will oppose this kind of parochial law,” Ruto added.
The President was responding to calls by Fafi Member of Parliament Salah Yakub who, a couple of days ago, hinted at a plan to tamper with the Constitution.
Yakub, in his strange proposal, said the presidential term cap should be pegged on age limit and not period of service.
He would shortly be supported by Nandi Senator, Samson Cherargei.
