Friday, November 25, 2022 –Two major media houses have paid Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata a whopping sh 12.5 million in compensation.
Royal Media Services RMS and Mediamax Limited settled the compensation out of court in a deal that saw the SK Macharia-owned RMS part with sh 6 million, while Mediamax sh 6.5 million for publishing corrupted stories on their respective Tv stations.
The Murang’a County boss stated that the two media houses made false publications in the year 2021 that seemed to taint his image as an immoral leader and family man.
Kang’ata accused the stations of doctoring Senate proceedings to give a false voice over that created a wrong impression that he was speaking from a bar.
He then made an appeal to the ex-Senate speaker Ken Lusaka to summon the media editors so that to shed more light on their intentions.
This back and forth ended up in Milimani Law Court with the victim seeking damages in millions from the accused.
They would later agree to settle this matter away from courts.
“Please find for onward transmission to your client. Please let us have the receipt. The next payments will be made through the bank details provided,” RMS wrote to Kang’ata’s lawyer.
On the other hand, Mediamax Ltd made the payment of sh 6.5 million in one settlement to the bank account of the lawyer.
“Kindly confirm receipt of the funds to enable us advise our Client. Further, enclosed is consent letter in duplicate duly executed on our part marking this fully and finally settled with no orders as to costs for your execution,” Mediamax lawyers wrote.
Mediamax runs K24 TV and Kameme FM while RMS has several Tv and radio stations which airs nationwide news.
