Thursday, October 20, 2022 –Ministry of Heath has announced Cholera outbreak in the country.
Cholera has broken out in a total of six counties as Kiambu County leads with 31 cases so far followed by Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kajiado and Murang’a counties.
The Mutahi kagwe-led ministry disclosed that out of the reported cases, 13 are still hospitalised while eight were already at home.
Furthermore, 40 others are receiving outpatient care with nurses monitoring them all round the clock to avoid death cases.
“Of the sixty-one (61) cases so far, thirteen (13) are currently hospitalized, eight (8) have been discharged while forty (40) were treated as outpatients.
“The National Public Health Microbiology Laboratory has isolated Vibrio cholera-01-Ogawa as the responsible stereotype,” read the Ministry of Health statement in part.
In Kiambu, according to our source, recorded the first fifteen cases after the infected persons were said to have consumed contaminated food and drinks.
“We are announcing this to warn our people to be careful because the bacteria spreads faster. It is important for our people to employ protective measures,” Governor Kimani Wamatang’i cautioned.
The World Health Organization WHO advises that maintaining good hygiene prevents this disease.
