Friday, October 7, 2022 –Outgoing Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has announced Monday October 10 a national public holiday.
The ex-CS made the notification on Friday October 7 saying the day will be special to mark both culture and traditions of the country.
“It is hereby notified that Monday, October 10, 2022, will be a public holiday (Utamaduni Day).
“All citizens are reminded to honour the day by recognising and celebrating the rich cultural diversity of Kenya in a manner that promotes our unity, national cohesion, and economic progress,” the outgoing CS directed.
He attributed the directive to Sections 2 (1) and 4 and Part One of the Schedule of Public Holidays Act (Cap 110).
In his 2017 ruling, Justice George Odunga observed that scrapping Moi Day away would be unethical hence its renaming to now Utamaduni Day.
Matiang’i’s announcement is coming at the time he is already replaced by Prof Kithure Kindiki.
