Saturday, November 12, 2022 –Equity Bank Chief Executive Officer CEO James Mwangi has donated a whopping sh 120 million in support of drought-hit families.
Making this public on Friday November 11, the seasoned banker promised President William Ruto that together with those willing, he will help in the fight against starvation.
“It appears it’s a perennial issue so why don’t we look for a permanent solution? On behalf of my family and the Equity group on matching grant through the Equity Foundation, I will give $1 million,” Mwangi said.
Ruto received the gesture well by highlighting the importance of pulling together resources so that to support those in dire need of food, water and shelter.
The head of State added that, his government was trying all that it could to make sure the situation is quickly brought to an end.
“I request all over us to bend over backward and see what we can do. As the government, we have to plan ahead of time. We could have done better and I promise that going to the future, we will be better prepared to change this situation. It will cease being an emergency,” he urged.
On his part, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua promised to oversee integrated relationship between the government and all development partners.
