Sunday, October 30, 2022 –Thousands of livestock are now dying as pastoralists count loses every day in Kajiado and the neighboring areas.
Citizen Digital on Sunday October 30 morning reported how prices of livestock have plummeted to deplorable levels in a rush to sell starving animals.
Farmers at Basil Market are now selling stock at a throw away price as famine ravages and kills thousands of livestock.
For example, sheep and goats are now selling at sh 100 or low each while a mature cow sells at between sh 400 and sh 500 down from normal prices of sh 20,000 or sh 50,000.
And so as to buy food and medication, locals are now in a rush to dispose livestock so that to buy food, water as well as medication despite heartbreaking prices.
In a real case study from the ground, John, was holding only sh 1,200 after selling a total of 12 goats to a customer.
“Hii pesa nimepokea ni mbuzi kumi na wawili nimeuza, kwa kila mbuzi ni mia ndio nimepewa saa hii,” he claimed.
In another similar case, another resident had sh 200 after disposing two mature sheep signaling a rough time facing all residents, currently.
Sadly, the weatherman has predicted that this situation may run into next year.
