Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s fight back ended up in smoke.
On Thursday evening, the MCAs who are opposed to his style of leadership voted him out in what was referred to as ‘uniform impeachment’.
This happened despite the county chief having taken a number of county members out of Nairobi town with an aim of interfering with the threshold.
All these plans failed to yield fruits and the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura who presided over the impeachment motion declared the ‘Yes team’ as the winners.
Having been informed about Sonko’s underhand in curtailing the process, the speaker, interestingly, allowed the MCAS who were way to vote via a video, what culminated into a consensus that saw 88 out of the 122 MCAS vote YES for his removal.
“Gov. Sonko impeachment mirrors Waititu’s. It is state sponsored. 2/3 threshold not achieved. Fraudulent figures announced. Impeachment is procured by force. Luckily Sonko has documented evidence well but don’t rely on Senate Orengo&Mutula with a call from above can do anything,” Murkomen wrote.
His sentiments would later be shared by Senator Ledama Ole Kina who termed this as Democracy on trial.
