Saturday, March 18,2023 –Police today, Saturday March 18, pounced on over 50 students who had converged at Chester House Nairobi to deliberate on the Monday March 20 mass action by the opposition team.
Led by student leader Tabitha Rachel, the students were reportedly discussing the opposition politics when police stormed their venue.
“Mtukujie Central Police Station,” they were heard pleading while bundled into a speeding police cruiser.
In a statement by their leader, Tabitha Rachel, they were arrested just before holding their press briefing at the Chester venue in the CBD.
Lawyers among them Danstan Omari were quickly sent to bail them out.

“Here to remind you that 20th. March 2023 Monday, is a Public holiday and we will be in streets of Nairobi protesting. Peaceful Protest. Join US,” Tabitha updated.
After their arrest, top leaders in Azimio and ODM Party among them Embakasi East MP Babu Owino condemned the incident saying the government was already in a panic mood.
“Arresting student leaders won’t help you. Reducing price of Unga and lowering high cost of living will,” Babu Owino commented.
Former presidential candidate Abduba Didda argued that the State was already panicking due to the protest scheduled Monday.
“How scared is the president? He has just arrested 50 student leaders shortly before they could issue a press statement. Luhyas say that when you are housing a stolen chicken, every person you see looks like the chief,” Dida noted.
On his part, Kileleshwa Member of Assembly MCA Robert Alai laughed at the State which he described as a coward.
