A huge buffalo killed mother and left her baby alive in West Pokot. It has now emerged.
The seventh months old girl was found by a Good Samaritan playing next to the mother’s body in a bush after the buffalo mauled the helpless mother who was taking her to clinic.
“Her eyes were gouged out and it broke her legs and hands. Fortunately, the baby girl was not hurt,” a local witness narrated.
Kenya Wildlife Service officials made the confirmation saying the blood thirsty animal had just migrated from the neighboring Uganda to Chepasacha Village in West Pokot County due to change of whether.
“The Buffalo was traced later by KWS officers and killed,” KWS Senior Warden Hamisi Amulavu explained.
After finding the baby alive, she was rushed to Kapenguria County Hospital as the diseased was taken to the mortuary in the same facility.
Residents who now live in fear following the ugly incident have been urged to instead be their brother’s keeper just in case they suspect other animals on loose in their area and that they should also be quick to report such developments to KWS authority through provided hotline numbers.
The rise in such incidences saw the government quickly set up a special air unit to deal with the human wildlife conflict in the area last year.
