Friday, September 24, 2021 -Members of Parliamnet have cleared Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe of any wrong in the multi-billion KEMSA scandal.
The Jubilee Party-allied-politician scored a big win after members of Parliament MPs deliberated and cleared his name from the black list of the individuals who had planned or defrauded the government agency billions of money in fake tenders.
The Committee investigating the multi-million saga found out that the directors of the firm linked to Murathe only used Murathe’s name to secure the tenders without his knowledge. He was also not a director nor a direct beneficiary in anyway.
Earlier in their papers, the company Kilig Limited had listed Murathe as one of their top directors and signatory.
“It was not clear to the committee the powers or influence Murathe wielded to an extent that he could be enjoined as a signatory to an account he had no beneficial interest.
“Of curiosity is the inclusion of Murathe as a signatory to the account in what was stated as to secure guarantee and secure payment from KEMSA after supply of PPEs,” states the committee chaired by Mvita Member of Parliament,” Abdulswamad Nassir.
The Public Investment and Accounts Committee further established that the company in question is owned by three individuals – Ivy Onyango, Willbroad Gachoka and Shu Jinping from China.
Details show that Ivy Onyango had just bought shares from Collins Wanjala – son to Budalang’i MP Raphael Wanjala – who is also a member of the committee.
In its recommendations, the Committee argued that Murathe’s name found its way into the list after the director’s wanted a guarantor.
The firm had secured a sh 4.5 billion tender to supply a whopping 450,000 Personal Protective Equipment PPEs at the height of Covid pandemic in the country.
